Dates and times

Arrivals

Please arrive between 2:30-3:00pm on Saturday the 22nd of August.

Contagious Adventure East is at Royal Hospital School, Holbrook, Ipswich, Suffolk, IP9 2RX. When you arrive we will have TEAM on hand to direct you to registration. Due to package travel regulations we are unable to provide transport from train stations to the venue.

Specific information about arrivals will be sent out via email and the ADVENTURE East WhatsApp group.

Departures

Please join us for our Response Meeting at 11am on the last day, to see and hear what the young people have been up to during the week – parents are welcome!

There will also be an opportunity to buy from the book stall (by card payment) on collection. 

After our Response Meeting you are welcome to stay to eat a picnic with us (The children will be provided with a picnic lunch. Parents please bring your own.)

Please come by 12 noon to collect your young people, we will deregister young people at this point.

Accommodation

The Children will sleep in comfortable bedrooms mostly in rooms of 2 people (there are a couple of three bed dorms). Clean toilets, basins to wash and brush teeth and easy to use showers are located on the same floor, just along the corridor. Their small group leaders will sleep in separate rooms nearby.  Each room will be labeled clearly and lights in the corridor will remain on overnight. Children may bring a small plug in night light if the dark is a problem, but we discourage torches as it can prolong bedtime unnecessarily.

Whilst Contagious GO East and MAX East are on the same site, ADVENTURE have their own boarding house where the young people will be.

What to bring

DO NOT bring any food. We have children with severe allergies and if a child does bring food to ADVENTURE, it will be taken off them as soon as they arrive. 

• Clothing appropriate for a range of weather and activities
• Shoes including those suitable for running/activities
• Bible (We will be teaching from the New International Version)
• Pens (young people will be provided with their own teaching booklets for writing notes in)
• Dark clothing suitable for water games
• Toiletries, sun cream, hat and sunglasses
• A re-useable water bottle
• Small light up alarm clock or watch
• Sports equipment, games, musical instruments for free time (please note these are brought at your own risk)

Photographs and social media

We are hoping to take some general photos or videos during the week that may be used for publicity, uploaded on our website or shared on social media sites.

If you have particular concerns about social media, photographs or publicity, please inform us by emailing admin@contagious.org.uk.

Mobile Phone policy

At Contagious ADVENTURE we discourage the children bringing phones with them. We also ask that the children don’t bring any electronic devices, including tablets, handheld games, laptops etc. There will be so much else going on they won’t need them. If they are brought we will store them centrally and securely until the end of camp and the children will not have access to them.

We’re keen that while the children are at Adventure they enjoy the experience and independence of being away from home. Sometimes being in regular contact with ‘home’ can make homesickness worse, so we won’t routinely encourage the children to call home. Please don’t make plans/promises to speak often – this is hard to facilitate and rarely needed. If a child is very homesick we will assess the situation and contact you if necessary. If you need to communicate something to your child(ren) over the course of the week, you can contact our Coordinator Julia at any point. We will also have a WhatsApp community group for parents for you to join. On this we will share updates about each day and photos.

MEDICAL, Pastoral and Dietary Information

You should have given us all relevant medical, SEN and pastoral information when you signed up on Brushfire. If you have any further information to give us or need to update anything then you can do that by accessing your booking on Brushfire. If you wish to update anything less than six weeks before the conference please email admin@contagious.org.uk. This is because we often pull the relevant information for each Conference from the booking website around six weeks before the conference, and by emailing us we can make sure that the necessary people are notified.

When you booked onto Contagious, we asked you to agree to our terms and conditions. You can access them here. In particular, please note our expectations with regards to behaviour throughout the week.

FAQs

What does a typical day look like?

7am is wake up time, followed by a filling breakfast at 8am before having our morning teaching session. After a short break we’ll have time studying the Bible in small groups. 

In the afternoons there are a range of activities available with a break for refreshments in the middle. Some of the activities are all-together while others are in smaller groups.

Dinner is at 5.15pm and then we join back together for the evening teaching session. We have evening entertainment before getting ready for bed. Each day finishes with hot chocolate (or an alternative). Lights out is 8.30pm so we have plenty of energy for all the fun we get up to in the daytime!

How are young people kept safe at Contagious?

How can I be praying for Contagious? 

We would love it if you could be praying for us throughout the week! It is only through God’s word applied to the hearts of the young people through the Holy Spirit’s work that lives are changed. Please be praying for faithful teaching and for hearts opened to the good news of the gospel. For particular points for prayer check out our dedicated page.

What is being taught at Contagious this year?

This summer we’ll be seeking the Way of Wisdom in the book of Proverbs, and see how this points us to the fact that it is only through union with Christ that true wisdom can be found.

Proverbs invites us to listen to the words of wisdom from a father to his son, written to encourage youth to grow in wisdom. This summer we want to see lives shaped and changed as we listen to God’s wisdom for all of life. Proverbs is both poetic and practical. It is not just a series of moral sayings but is a story that is filled with rich truths and points us forward to Christ.
