SUS Leader responsibilities

SUS Leader responsibilities

The SUS leaders’ role is broken down into SUS leader ‘A’ (usually a more experienced leader) and SUS leader ‘B’ (usually a newer leader). They work together to serve and care for the young people in their small group.

All SUS leaders have the following responsibilities:

  • Before Contagious prepare the SUS group Bible Studies using the Contagious Teaching Material. Prepare well including good bible exposition, creative ideas to engage and thoughtful applications to teach, challenge and encourage the young people in their lives.
  • Lead Bible studies with the young people each morning, if you are not the main leader for that study then actively engage in the study and encourage those in the SUS group to get involved.
  • Actively participate in the seminars (for MAX) and teaching sessions together with your SUS group. Ensure all in your SUS group are present during teaching sessions and are punctual.
  • Participate and encourage your SUS group to join all compulsory activities. All SUS leaders should be together with their SUS groups during these activities. During the optional activities try and find where some of your SUS group are and join in with their activities.
  • Complete one-to-ones with the young people in your SUS group if you are a MAX SUS leader. These take place towards the end of the week and your coordinator will give guidance on this.
  • Provide pastoral support for the young people in your SUS group. They are your responsibilities not just during the formal teaching times but throughout the week. Your aim as a SUS leader should be to “be where the young people are”. This includes eating breakfast as a SUS group, joining in difference games and activities with them, and checking in on them throughout the week. If you have any concerns about a young person then you should pass this on to the safeguarding lead or pastoral lead as appropriate.
  • Pray for your SUS group before, during and after the conference.

SUS Leader ‘A’ Responsibilities:

  • For your fellow SUS Leader B/& C; ensure that they are performing uprightly in conduct and attitude to the group and training them in leading a bible study, caring for the group needs and motivating them in the teaching and activities.
  • Lead the Bible studies with your SUS Leader B/C depending on his or her experience and competence. Guide and support them in preparing the studies, bible exposition, and ideas to engage the young people, making sure to give encouraging feedback with one thing that was well done and one thing to work on next time.

SUS Leader ‘B/C’ Responsibilities:

  • Support the SUS Leader ‘A’ in leading the team, during group time and in caring for the young people, including 1-1 time with them.
  • Before Contagious liaise with your SUS Leader A regarding SUS group sessions and prepare studies discussed with your SUS leader A.
